Apple is known to have tight security measures on their devices that certain features can have their own passcode.

The downside of having such tight security is when you forget those passcodes, especially the Restriction passcode. Recovering or resetting them can be a hassle.

In this article, we will be talking about what you can do when you forgot your iPad restrictions passcodes.

Let’s get started.

Difference Between iPad Restrictions and Device Passcodes

On an Apple device, you usually set up two passcodes. One passcode is called the device passcode. This is the number or word combination that you input whenever you wish to unlock your device.

This is a security measure that all smartphones use which prevents unauthorized people from accessing your device. This can also be paired with a facial scan or Face ID.

The other passcode that you set on your Apple device is the Restrictions passcode. This is the passcode that allows you to set or change the Restriction settings on your device.

It basically manages which apps or features you are able to access on that device. It may set a limit on usage for certain apps as well.

The two passcodes are not related to each other, so you may use a different or the same combination for both passcodes.

Although it is discouraged to have the same passcode for both since unauthorized people—your kids, for example—might easily guess it and access the Restriction settings.

Having different passcodes for both features will strengthen the security of your device.

Forgot the iPad Restrictions Passcode? Remove It without Restoring Your iPad

There are times when you haven't accessed the Restriction settings for a very long time and end up forgetting the passcode for it.

In these types of situations, people usually reset their iPads and set them up as new device.

It may be okay for some, but it might be an inconvenience for others since it will erase all the data stored on your device.

Don’t worry, there is another way to remove the Restrictions passcode. You can use third-party software such as Unlockit to remove it easily without having to delete any data on your device.

Here are the steps on how to use it:

Step 1. First, download the app on your PC. Once installed, launch the app.

Step 2. Now, click on Remove Screen Time Passcode.

Reset Restrictions Passcode on an iPad

If using Unlockit didn’t work for you, you can try to do it the old-fashion way–by resetting your device. You can do this in three ways: through iPad, iCloud, or Recovery Mode.

Always remember to back up your files before doing this method since it will ultimately erase all your files in the process.

iPad Method

Here are the steps on how to reset your iPad to its factory settings:

  1. First, open Settings and head to General.
  2. Next, tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone, then select Erase All Content and Settings.

It’s quick and simple.

iCloud Method

If you can’t access your iPad right now, you can do it through iCloud instead. Here is how you do it:

  1. First, go to iCloud and log in with the Apple ID that you used on the device you want to reset.
  2. Next, select Find iPhone.
  3. After that, click on the All Devices options at the top of the screen. A drop-down list should appear wherein you should choose the iPhone you want to erase.
  4. Now, click on the device’s name and select Erase iPhone.

iCloud Method

After doing that, the device should now be reset to its factory settings.

Recovery Mode Method

This method is usually used as a last resort, so only do this if none of the previously mentioned methods do not work. Although this step requires the help of a computer, unlike the previous two methods.

Here are the steps:

  1. First, put your iPad in recovery mode.
  2. Next, continue to hold down the designated button until the Connect to iTunes screen appears on your device.
  3. Finally, go back to your PC, and a pop-up window should appear asking you to either Update or Restore the device. Click on Update.

This method takes a bit more time than others, but it still gets the job done.

Wrapping Up

Forgetting your own Restrictions passcode can be an inconvenience. Luckily, this can easily be removed by either resetting your device or by using a third-party app such as Unlockit.

Resetting the device yourself is easy, but it will erase all your data in the process. However, if you use Unlockit, it removes the passcode with your data intact, making it the best method available.
