Snapchat, like most other forms of social media, will track the location of your device to gather the information that can be used to personalize and improve your experience.
But as more and more people become aware of the effects of the privacy violations this kind of tracking can mean, they increasingly choose to stop Snapchat from tracking their location.
If you don't want Snapchat to track your location, there are several things that you can do. Most of the solutions will however trick the app into tracking the wrong location.
Here, we will show you the most effective ways to do that without jailbreaking your iPhone.
While Apple is giving many developers increased freedom to develop apps that can spoof location, many of these apps are still too complicated and require considerable technical skills and just the right computer program.
You do have the alternative of using another device to log into Snapchat. Since Snapchat only allows you to log into one device at a time, you can load the app on any other device and Snapchat will show the location of that device.
But this is only useful if you can leave the secondary device somewhere else for extended periods.
There are other ways to fake the Snapchat location on your iOS device without needing to jailbreak the device. Let's find out.
By far, the best way to fake location on Snapchat is to use MockGo iOS GPS Changer. This is a desktop solution that will change the location on your iOS device to anywhere else in the world without having to jailbreak the device.
The following are the features that make it so functional:
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you use MockGo to change the location on Snapchat:
Step 1: Install MockGo on your computer and open it.
Step 2: Connect your device to the computer using a USB cable.
Step 3: Select the "Teleport" mode in the upper-right corner of the screen (it's the third icon from the left). Then, enter the location you would like to use the text field.
Step 4: Confirm that you have the correct location and then click "Move" to teleport the device to this new location. You can then open Snapchat to make sure that the location has changed.
You can also change the location on your iPhone using XCode. The process is simple, but you will need to install XCode on your Mac. It is available on AppStore. Here's how to use it:
Step 1: Once XCode is installed on your Mac, open it, and in the main window, click on "Create New XCode Project."
Step 2: Choose "Sing View Application" and then select the project options on the next screen. You can give the project any name you desire. Choose "Swift" as the language and "iPhone" under "Devices."
You will then need to save the project on any location on your Mac before you can continue.
Step 3: Run the app on your iPhone. If you have never used it before, you may need to provide the app with some permissions before you can use it.
Before clicking on the "Fix Issue" warning that you see on your device, do the following first:
Go to XCode Preferences > Accounts > Click on the "+" icon at the bottom > Choose "Add Apple ID" and then enter your "Apple ID username and password."
Close this window and then click on the "Team" drop-down and select the Apple ID that you just added.
Now click "Fix Issue" and the error will be gone.
Step 4: Now connect the iPhone to your Mac and click on the project name button at the top-right of the window. Select your iPhone when it appears at the top.
Step 5: Click on the play icon on the top-left. If this is your first time, the process may take some time.
Step 6: Now install your App on your iPhone. If you see an error message, simply unlock the iPhone to remove it. You will know that you have successfully installed the app on your device if you see a blank screen.
Step 7: Now open any app on your device that shows your current location, such as Google Maps. And in XCode on your computer click on the "Debug" menu and then choose "Simulate Location." Choose the fake location and you should see it appear on the map instantly.
Now just open Snapchat and you should be able to swipe through the filters to see the Geofilters for a particular snap.
You may also be able to fake your location on a Snapchat using Cydia Apps. This method doesn't require a jailbroken device: you only need to use another version of Snapchat to fake your location.
To do that, you will need to install a modified version of Snapchat on your device. There are various versions that you could use, but for the purposes of this tutorial, we will use Snap + IPA.
Step 1: Install Snap + IPA on your device. Open it and tap on the location icon at the top-right-hand corner of the screen.
Step 2: Choose any location that you would like to use and tap "Confirm." Wait for Snapchat to update the location.
Step 3: Now open Snapchat and you will see that your avatar has moved to the location that you have selected.
This method will work for both jailbroken and non-jailbroken devices. If you see an error message when using Snapchat++ just wait at least 5 minutes before trying to log in again.
If you don't want to use the Snap Map, you can turn it off completely using the "Ghost Mode" of the Snap Map feature.
With Ghost Mode enabled, Snapchat will not be able to display your location using Snap Map and none of your friends will be able to locate you unless you choose to share your location again.
Here's how to do it:
Step 1: Open the Snap Map.
Step 2: Tap on the Settings icon in the upper-right hand corner.
Step 3: Tap on the toggle next to "Ghost Mode" to enable it.
Your status will change from "When enabled, your friends can't see your location" to "Removing your last location from Map…"
As everyone seeks a little bit of the ever-elusive privacy, there is an increasing need to continue using social media platforms like Snapchat without having everyone know where you are and what you're doing at any given time.
The solutions we have outlined above should be able to turn off location tracking in Snapchat without having to jailbreak your iPhone.
